Sports Massage Therapy

What is Sports and Remedial Massage?

Sports and Remedial Massage techniques can be used pre-event as part of a warm up program to prepare for activity; post-event to aid the cool down and assess injury and for continued maintenance to ensure the body is in prime condition and prevent injury.

Sports massage can also be used to aid relaxation of tired and weary muscles brought on by any physical exertion; for example, gardening, decorating or repetitive lifting. It can effectively ease postural related muscle pain which may be due to prolonged sitting at a computer.

Examples of other conditions that may be helped by Sports and Remedial Massage include: muscle strains, ligament sprains, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), golfers elbow, tennis elbow, runners knee, jumpers knee, Osgood-Schlatter's disease, shin splints, whiplash, backache, plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis.

Initial Assessment

During your first appointment I will complete a full case history, postural assessment and conduct orthopaedic testing (if applicable). This will enable me to create a personal treatment plan for your specific needs. All information you supply is confidential and protected in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

What shall I wear?

During the massage treatment it will be necessary to reveal appropriate parts of the body, although I use towels to retain modesty and comfort. I use massage oils during treatment and, although it is easily absorbed into the skin, it is advisable to come appropriately attired!

How long will it take?

Treatments last 60 mins. First treatments will take longer due to the initial consultation.

Homecare Advice

Treatments can leave you feeling tired and weary. In addition, muscles may feel sore for 24 hrs after treatment. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water after your treatment to rehydrate and aid recovery. I may provide you with a program of stretches and rehabilitation exercises if applicable; these will be discussed and demonstrated during the session to ensure you understand how to carry them out safely and effectively.

Laura Baylis, patient of Rebecca Brett Sports Massage

"As a Championship runner, High Performing and representative RAF Triathlete and GB Age Group Duathlete, regular top quality massage from Rebecca helps me to compete at a high level and reduces the possibility of injury from training regularly. Training and racing is often day after day, so recovery is a key element in my sport.  Rebecca has worked on me many times and I consider hers to be one of the best Sports Massages I've experienced; she never fails to find the problem and to remedy it with her treatments.  Her massages keep me fit and supple and I believe that without her help I would not be at the top pf my game.  I am consistently impressed by the advanced techniques used and the professionalism provided"
